The Friends of the Carnegie Public Library met at 5:30 pm on July 13, 2020
in the large meeting room of the library. Social distancing was
maintained. The minutes from the January 13, 2020 meeting were read.
There was not a meeting on April 13, 2020 due to the COVID crisis. Lynn
Goodwin, treasurer, gave her report. It was noted that the income from the
ongoing book sale was down since the library was closed due to COVID.

FOL. It was noted that any person or business in the community is
welcome to join FOL at any time by filling out a membership form and
paying the membership fee. All money goes to support the library's
extra needs and programming not covered by their budget.
The AED is installed by the elevator and the staff will have a special
training session as soon as the COVID crisis allows. FOL will cover the
cost of the pad replacement when it is needed. The AED and pads were made
possible from Friends of the Library membership fees.
Many library and FOL projects are on hold at this time due to COVID.
However, there are still many programs available for the public.
One of the board members at large, is moving out of state and will not be
able to finish her term. Pat Thompson was nominated and voted to fill the
vacancy.
Rick Chambon, library liaison, gave his report. There was a staff
training day on July 8, 2020 and Friends of the Library provided lunch for
the staff. Motion passed. Both Youth and Adult Summer Reading Programs
had to be scaled back due to COVID but FOL covered the cost of the Adult
books for Summer Reading.
Chambon stated that the library will be having an Adult Fall Reading
Program. He requested FOL purchase the books for the program as well as
the hotel cost for the author visit.
The book for Fall Reading is 'Hitler and the Hapsburgs' by James
Longo. The author has agreed to come to Washington for a program on his
book if the COVID crisis allows. If not, he will do a Face Time program.
Princess Sophia, great granddaughter of Franz Ferdinand, is also scheduled
to be a program. Registration will begin August 1 for the Fall Reading
Program.
Chambon reported that the PLA conference in Nashville was interesting and
informative. He thanked FOL for assisting in the cost of his attendance.
The library has scheduled special fall programming beginning August 25,
2020 with a harp concert. The harpist is originally from Vincennes but
plays for the Philadelphia and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. On
September 18, Marsha Miller from Indiana State University will give a
character presentation on the suffragettes to honor the centennial of
women's right to vote.
Chambon has started a new outreach program 'COFFEE and a CHAT' that
meets on the first Friday of the month at the library. This program has
been well received. The next 'CHAT' will be August 7, 2020 at 10:00
am at the library. Everyone is welcome and you do not have to be a member
of FOL or have a library card to attend.
The Fall Book Sale was discussed. The Spring sale was cancelled because
of the Pandemic. It was decided to try to go ahead and have the sale on
September 25 and 26 if the COVID crisis allows. The sale will be
addressed closer to the date by the FOL board.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2020 at 5:30 pm in
the large meeting room at the library.
