The Friends of the Library met in the small meeting room of the Washington Carnegie Public Library for their regularly scheduled meeting.   There were 14 members present.

Rick Chambon, Adult Programming Coordinator, gave his report.   The FOL fund raising trip to the Indianapolis Museum of Art for a tour of the exhibit “Audubon: Drawn to Nature” was sold out.  He is looking into a future trip next spring to Louisville.  He requested funds for a luncheon for elected officials to discuss library funding and advocacy issues.  The majority of the community does not realize that the library is a city library and not county wide.  The luncheon will give the library a chance to educate the community.  He also requested funds for two employees to attend the Children and Youth  Conference in Indianapolis on August 27 and 28.  The funds would cover hotel, mileage and registration.

The minutes from the April 11, 2017 meeting were read and approved.

Pat Rinehart gave the Treasurer’s report. FOL had income from the May book sale, the ongoing book sale, the fund raising trip, membership dues and donations.

There were 24 attendees on the trip to the museum.  It was noted that the small bus was not very comfortable. However, the consensus was that the trip was fun and a success.  Participants stated that they enjoyed having time to explore on their own after the tour.

The new microphones are in the process of being purchased.  There will be dual microphones, both head sets and clip on allowing two presenters to each have a microphone.  There will be a speaker panel in the large meeting room and a second speaker panel in the small meeting room.  Audio can be sent to one or the other or both. This will allow the microphones to be used in either room.  Audio from other sources such as the TV/DVR will be able to be sent through the system.

The membership status is 111 units and 1 group.  There are 39 family memberships making 151 total members.  There are still several members who have not paid their 2017 dues.

The Spring book sale was a success.   There are quite a few books in storage for the fall book sale. Books can always be donated. Mysteries and westerns are always in demand.

The Adult Summer Reading Program has been very successful and broken several records.  A total of 96 participants signed up for the program with an 86% participation rate and an 80% completion rate.  The requirements were increased this year for completion.  The Children’s Summer Reading Program was also very successful.

The Fall Book Sale will be October 5th, 6th and 7th with set up being on the 5th.  Prices will remain the same. Friends members will have early access on October 6th from 10 to 12.  Memberships will be available at the sale.

All members were reminded to keep thinking of ideas for fund raisers for FOL.

It was noted that the officers’ terms are over in December 2016.  Members were asked to consider being on the nominating committee or taking an office.

Membership fees were discussed.  The Board recommends that the fees be increased as follows:  Individual $10, Family $15, Group $20 and Corporate $50.  This increase will be voted on at the October meeting.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 5:30 at the library.
