Friends of the Library- Next meeting is second Tuesday in April at 5:30 in the library.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY NEWSLETTER The Friends of the Washington Carnegie Public Library met in the meeting room at the library for their scheduled annual business meeting. There were 16 members present. The meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm by President, Janet Goodwin. The minutes from the October 9, 2018 meeting were read. The treasurer gave her report. OLD BUSINESS: There were 242 membership letters sent out prior to the annual meeting. Included was a membership form. The business membership letter and form will be mailed in the next two weeks. There will be 237 letters be sent to Washington businesses. There were 107 member units returned in 2018 with 38 being families for a total of 145 members. There was one group and 16 business memberships for 2018. NEW BUSINESS: Cailey Moreland, STEM coordinator, reported that the STEM program was doing very well. There is a waiting list for the programs. Several area teachers have been asking about the program. On April 13, 2019, the Library will be hosting a STEM conference for up to 50 educators and librarians in the surrounding areas. Moreland requested that FOL support the conference by providing lunch for the participants. It would be catered with soup, sandwiches and dessert being provided. The membership voted to provide the lunch. The Spring Book Sale will be May 2, 3 and 4th. Set up will be on Thursday, May 2. Members will be contacted to volunteer. A discussion was held on FOL having a wine and cheese tasting fund raiser in the fall. There would be musical entertainment and a wine trail through the library. It was voted to proceed with this fundraiser. Lynn Goodwin, Joyce Morgan and Diane Kendrick will coordinate the evening with Rick and Teresa. Rick Chambon, Adult Outreach Coordinator, reported that there were 55 participants in the Winter Reading Program. There will be a skype session with Sy Montgomery, author of the book, “The Soul of an Octopus”. There will be an additional skype session with an expert on coral reefs. Rick requested funds to cover Marcee Wininger’s registration for a continuing education course. He also requested funds to cover the fees for Donita Mattingly to get her library certification and for a professional development course. It was voted to pay these fees. Kathleen Harris suggested that we see if there is something that the library needs that FOL can provide. Rick will check with Teresa on special items wanted or needed and report back. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 5:30 pm. Anyone interested is invited to come. Membership forms are available at the main desk.
